A Message from the Australian Institute of Architects
Now, more than ever Open House is an inspirational window, door, or more likely a weblink, to another world. As a result of circumstance, many of us have become obsessed with our own interiors. We now live in a world where a trip to the supermarket is an outing to be savoured.
For some, instead of working from home, the situation is more akin to living at work. Whether you are a regular visitor through the portal that is the Gold Coast Open House, or whether this endeavour is entirely new, if you choose to tour this year I would encourage you to look with fresh eyes, to be inquisitive. To see the world afresh, it helps to be armed with the right questions.
- Why was I attracted to visit this building in the first place?
- What is it about this space that makes me feel; invigorated/comfortable/happy?
- How can this building be both humble and inspiring?
- How can this place appear to be so simple but be so satisfying? If during these visits you find yourself thinking;
- Why couldn’t I live, or work, or play, this way?
- How do I find the right architect to work with?
After all, if we are all going to be living differently, why shouldn’t we live the way we want to?
Finally, to those who have used an architect and who then generously opened up their building to make this possible, and to those who have donated their time to make this happen. . . Thank you!
